Watching the manta rays being fed is like watching a scene straight out of a Hayao Miyazaki movie. Three men bear pails attached to long poles and beat the surface of the water three to four times.It has to be done as one and on cue, not unlike a religious ritual. Once done, it is quite something to see the smaller fish dart away as the magnificent manta rays emerge from below, maws gaping as the men scoop and pour a mix of plankton, krill and small fish into their open mouths as they swim by.....only for the smaller fish to attach themselves to the gentle giants like a scaled entourage, ready to feed off the leftovers the rays drop.
