“We are fighting against Amerikan recruitment policies that target working-class youth of color, and fighting to end Amerikan militarization and imperialism, which threaten our safety and the safety of our loved ones inside and outside Amerikan borders. We are fighting to end the oppression of transgender people of color who face state violence even—and sometimes especially—because of our ability to pass, and fighting to end the gentrification and subsequent displacement of working class youth of color, which is often led by the white gay community. We are fighting to end the police brutality that singles out queer youth of color, and fighting to create our own spaces, or even spaces where we can safely exist. These are our battles. But once again, my experience as a transgender person of color, and more so the experience of working-class and poor queer people of color, are not only marginalized and silenced but also tramped on in the name of gay “rights”. My resistance to the mainstream gay movement is based on my need for survival. It is based on the need to make queer liberation synonymous with anti-imperialism, not gay inclusion into Amerika’s blood-stained genocidal dreams.” — Priyank Jindal, from “Sites of Resistance or Sites of Racism?” in That’s Revolting: Queer Strategies for Resisting Assimilation
