We are working very hard to restore Metro services and Director General of Nexus, Bernard Garner would like to say the following: "I’m sorry that Metro services were not fully restored this morning following our 27 day major line closure. "We are experiencing major problems with our signalling systems after they were switched back on for testing during the early hours. Replacement buses have been drafted in to provide passengers with transport in the affected areas. "The problems with the signals meant that we could not allow trains back on to the line between Regent Centre and Heworth just after 5am, though Metro services from Haymarket to Heworth were restored at 10am. "Over the last 27 days we have carried out a huge amount of modernisation work. It’s the biggest project since the Metro system was built. The work itself was completed on time, but problems arose when we began restoring and testing our signals. "When signals develop faults it is very important that they are thoroughly tested because they are crucial for the safe operation of trains. "I apologise to our customers whose journeys are being disrupted"
