... We explored two towns of Capiz in the conduct of our data gathering for the OE NADA research; Pan-ay and Sapian.. Glenda Mabaquiao, Ma Josephine Melicano Mercado, Noel Matunding, Rolando Zacarias ... Nevertheless, of the two towns, we had a blast exploring Pan-ay!! ... What a historically enriching experience with the BIGGEST CHURCH BELL IN ASIA it was! Pan-ays Sta. Monica Church belongs to the Baroque style which reminds me of UNESCOs heritage churches that I visited previously like in Miag-ao, Iloilo and Barasoin Church in Malolos. The façade is ornamented with swags of flowers, niches and statuary and behold, it is indeed made of coral stones!! The facade of the church is simply decorated by pillaster flanking the entrance and horizontal ledges with niches for the life-sized statues of the Augustinian saints, Sto.Tomas de Villanueva and Sta.Monica. It even carved on its thick wall the Augustinian seal.The five-story belfry is the center of curiousity because of its unusually huge bell. It measures seven feet in diameter, five feet in height, and weighed 10,400 kilograms. The locales would affectionately call it “Dako nga Lingganay”, Hiligaynon (vernacular) for “big bell”. #NoFilter #AmateurLensman
