We feel we are perhaps overdue in letting you know how the finances work at Leash of Life. Firstly, we never seem to have enough money :( We ask £200 when a dog is adopted. This does not cover what we pay for the dog. For every dog we pay £175 for transport. For the majority of dogs we pay 140 Euros for foster and passport preparation. We know that the Romanian costs are high and we know that people are making money out of it but we dont know any other way to get the dogs out of their horrendous conditions and here to the UK to safety. So...,you can see that we already have a shortfall. We also have to cover vet bills that are incurred whilst the dogs are in foster and many of our dogs do need a visit to the vets shortly after arrival. We try to cover these additional costs by our fundraising efforts but there have been many times when we have not had enough money to cover either transport or vets fees and we have had to dig into our own pockets to cover this. We have recently waived adoption fees, mostly because treatment has been needed and the adopters have struggled to find the money for adoption and to cover the dogs treatment. Dogs often have to stay in foster for quite a while, either because a suitable home hasnt been found or perhaps because we feel that the dog will benefit from spending more time adjusting to home life. The longer it stays, the longer it is before some money comes back to us. This is not meant as a moan or an appeal for money but we hope that people who pay an adoption fee to us and then expect it to be returned if they hand the dog back cannot expect a refund of money immediately, that money will already have been used to fund another dog.
