We have LOVED hearing the sponsorship stories that people have been sharing with us this past week. Tamara is a 17 year old high school student who decided to #ChangeOne life by sponsoring a child through Mission of Hope, Haiti. Read her beautiful story below! THANK YOU Tamara, for helping to bring life transformation to this beautiful child! #everychild Im a 17 year old student in high school. I dont have a job, except for occasionally babysitting. Last summer I found out that I was going to be coming to Mission of Hope on a mission trip with my church over spring break. I started to look around Mission of Hopes website, and figured out that I could sponsor a child AND get to meet her when I come to Haiti! It was a big decision, $35/month is a lot for a high school student with no steady income. My parents were not supportive at first, but I decided to go ahead and sponsor a child anyways. I started to sponsor this precious girl, Roselienda. When I got the card with her picture on it in the mail, my first thought was that she was one of the most beautiful children Id ever seen. Shes in 3rd grade, and wants to be a teacher (like me!). I started sponsoring Roselienda 4 months before coming to MOH, so I hadnt had a chance to receive any letters from her yet. But, I was still excited to get to meet this little girl. On my second day in Haiti, instead of going off with my group to paint houses, I went off to meet Roselienda. I had a teddy bear for her, and a bracelet with her name on it. The second Roselienda saw me, she ran down the steps of her school and into my arms. It was one of the most amazing moments of my life. She knows no English and I only know basic Creole, so we chatted through a translator for awhile, and then when the translator had to go talk with someone else, we still talked and took pictures. Language barrier was no problem for us! This sweet girl adored the teddy bear and bracelet, and teared up when I had to leave 30 minutes later. Later, Brooke told me that it was amazing that Roselienda had ran down the steps and into my arms. She said that usually when a sponsor comes to meet their child, the child is nervous, shy, and quiet. Roselienda wasnt any of that. It had to of been a God thing. I know for some people $35/month is probably hard to come up with. I promise though, if you sponsor a child, it will be one of the most rewarding things you ever do. Putting aside $10 a week, or not going out to eat two times a month that you usually would; both are things I do to help come up with the money each month. Sponsoring a child will be one of the most amazing experiences of your life, especially if you get to meet them. Its so worth it.
