We just got a call from the Peds oncology clinic with results of yesterdays bone marrow biopsy. I dont remember if I ever officially reported the original biopsy results or not, but at relapse, his bone marrow was 90% saturated with leukemia cells. After 2 weeks of IV and spinal chemo in addition to high dose steroids and lots and lots of prayers, his bone marrow now shows 1% saturation with leukemia. That is not a typo!!! Yes, 1%!!! I am seriously at a loss for words! In addition his spinal fluid again showed no leukemia! We are so grateful for this news! At this point since there is still leukemia present, we will need to continue on with chemo. The plan is that we will meet with the transplant team at the University of Minnesota on Friday to discuss whats to come and IF they have a match for Ty. In the mean time we are at home but have to literally be at home as Tys ANC (infection fighting part of white blood cell) is at zero still. Also his hemoglobin yesterday was only 7.4--pretty low! But, again they want to try to hold off on transfusions as much as possible to try to reduce antibodies when going into transplant. Ty has very significant weakness in his legs as he is again dealing with muscle deconditioning from the steroids. He is still walking but has a weird, slow, shuffling gait. We dealt with this previously and hopefully with intense therapy after completion of the steroids, this will subside again. Otherwise, Ty will again have a lumbar puncture on Monday along with chemo. We will check bloodwork Thurs (this week)--tomorrow if he is symptomatic with his low hemoglobin and then get a blood transfusion. So much for being at a loss for words!!! :) we just cannot say thank you enough times over for all of the prayers and support we have received for Ty and our family! We still have a very long and difficult battle ahead with the transplant but this gives me so much more hope than before. It is so overwhelming to be going thru this again but we are happy he is responding to treatment and know that we are never alone in this battle. Thank you again!!!!
