We live in The United States of Hypocrisy! Last night I - TopicsExpress

We live in The United States of Hypocrisy! Last night I posted yet another controversial status. This time it was about depression. I went on to say some people do not have true depression but instead have an issue with wanting attention. I also added that it takes the death of a celebrity to make depression public enemy number 1 for an entire week. Instead of a civil discussion, people assumed I grouped all of those with depression into one category. Of course some stayed civil but others went as far as sending me death threats to my inbox. Crazy and surprising? Absolutely not! This is a problem that is growing like a tumor in this country. We scream and cry out for tolerance and equality in this country but do we really want it? The instant someone says they are proud to be a straight white man, they are called ignorant. If a white man shoots a black man that broke into his house, he is called a bigot and a racist. If a black man shoots a white man for breaking into his house, no one says a thing. If someone voices their opinion that is different from the main stream, they are immediately pounced upon and hated. So tell me, where the hell is the tolerance and equality in that? A very popular celebrity committed suicide yesterday and it is a tragic event. People all around the country are banding together to fight depression, but why? Where was the outcry to stop depression after the thousands of other people in this country committed suicide? If the media would cover all of the other suicide stories the way they cover celebrities things might change. We all know that isnt going to happen so we are the ones that need to wise up. I see many on FB that say they will lend a helping hand to someone in need, but how many of them will actually stay true to that? The answer is not many Im afraid. People want to look good in the eyes of others but when the time comes to act they fall short. Again.....hypocrisy. How come the deaths of certain people in this country isnt as sad and tragic as the others? Isnt a life a life? Why do we hold certain people up to a higher standard? Seriously fellow hypocrites, why do we act like this? We say we shouldnt bunch a group of people into a certain category because of the actions of one. However, when a single officer breaks a law we call all police monsters. Liberals call all conservatives ignorant morons and conservatives do the same to liberals. This also holds true with anything involving race in this country. People wonder why nothing moves forward in our society and this is the number one reason. So why do we care so much that someone else has a different belief or lifestyle as ours? There isnt a definitive answer. If someone is gay, straight, black, white, or anything else, how does that affect you in your own personal life? This is a question many on here need to ask themselves right this second. Now I am not saying Im perfect because I am guilty of most of this as well. Most of you are to. Next time someone has a different opinion than yours try and figure their mindset before jumping on their case. I dream of a time where people can just get along but it will probably never happen. Until then I will continue living in The United States of Hypocrisy.
