We now have final voter turnout results for yesterdays town - TopicsExpress

We now have final voter turnout results for yesterdays town election! Our Chief Election Official has informed us that a total of 1,281 ballots were cast for Town Council, including the two advance polls. With 3,823 eligible voters, that equals a voter turnout of 33.5 percent. Nothing to write home about, but there you have it. Now, to the topic of the contest with the District of Tofino, which I know many of you have been following. Her Worship Josie Osborne and I agreed that the contest would be based on number of percentage points, not percentage change (e.g. going from 33 percent to 36 percent gains you three points). We also agreed that in case both our communities voter turnout falls, the community that falls by the fewest percentage points wins. Here are the numbers Ive come up with: Smithers: 41.5% in 2011 to 33.5% in 2014 = 8 point drop Tofino: 56.3% in 2011 to 34.8% in 2014 = 21.5 point drop Barring an error in my math, it looks like we won! That means we can look forward to the fine people of Tofino singing out the praises of this great little northern town we call home. Thanks to Josie for being a great sport and an all-around awesome Mayor.
