We try to force anima into our world but she is wild and resentful. We wrestle with her because we are irresistibly drawn to her even while recognizing her danger. She is the purity we lack. She is the intuition that counters our logic. Even in the struggle we feel the magic of interplay between these opposite components of Self. Even as she rides our back in nightmare we know she represents our path to freedom from the rational, literal world - Ego - which is a cage for spirit. Only if we give her space can we approach in her moments of stillness, but her wild nature forces the return to defensive postures. We cannot tame her. Force of will cannot contain her and we cannot follow when she retreats into Unconscious Mind. But in our deepest despair she will encourage us, comfort us. For a short time she may merge with Identity, bringing peace and wholeness. She pushes us, inspires us, changes us for the better. She is the muse we seek, the solace we desire above all else. She know us in ways another never can because she is a hidden part of us. Not even when parity is struck can she save us from the trap of Ego, or the trappings of material existence. Try as we might, only death can free us to merge with her.
