We used to be able to go ten feet and pick an apple from a tree. - TopicsExpress

We used to be able to go ten feet and pick an apple from a tree. Now we have to get in a car and travel to a store that had to buy it from another state that had to ship it in a truck, a ship or a plane. This apple had to be stored in a refrigerator possibly months after it was picked so it wouldn’t ripen too fast in order to make the trip. It was harvested by many men and women who were specifically trained to identify what looked perfect, but not before it was sprayed with a ton of chemicals and was bug free. It started as a seed that may or many not have been derived in a lab and it passed through the hands of so many entities by the time it made it to the grocery store, that it had to have its own sticker just to identify it. During this process, the air was polluted by pesticides, diesel emissions, car emissions and an enormous amount of energy was exuded by all types of equipment just so it could sit on our table in a bowl and be ignored by our kids who want to eat the fake fruit roll up in the cabinet. Welcome to America! :-)
