Webinar: Knowledge Sharing for Science Thursday, 4 December 2014, 3:00 pm (UTC +1) Moderator: Melanie Stilz As in other areas of society, openness and collaboration have gained increasing acceptance within the production and distribution of science. Scientific knowledge was and still is regularly accused of circulating in self-reproducing cycles at “ivory towers” with few links to the outside world. Open and collaborative science intends to cross this border, reach out to non-academic institutions and individuals and establish an exchange of data, knowledge, experiences and results. One aspect can be the “power of the crowd”, that has also been mentioned in previous webinars of this series (see Crowdfunding and Crowdsourcing of Culture). Another to provide materials to those outside the often high – financial, administrative, spatial, etc - walls of established research institutions. In this webinar we want to discuss with our experts what new opportunities open and collaborative science can bring to the competitive research arena, where their limits might be and how the idea of “science” in general might change with regard to these developments. The webinar will take place within the group „Digital Society“. More information: alumniportal-deutschland.de/webinar-sharing-for-science
