Weekend ahead forecast - Unsettled Start to the weekend. Wind and snow. But change is coming. We are under a yellow warning from the Met office for winds. Yellow means be aware. It ends at 3 am Friday morning and the full warning can be found pinned to the top of the page. Thursday evening / Friday Just in case we needed it more rain is spreading across the Western Isles this Thursday evening. Wind are strong and coming from a North Westerly direction. A difference from the usual South Westerly direction. Winds are around 30 to 40 mph gusting 50 to 60 mph at times reaching 70 to 80 mph.Winds will remain around the same overnight Thursday into Friday. The rain will start to turn increasingly wintry as the night goes on and we are likely to see snow. At this stage still some uncertainty as to how much will fall. The worst is likely across the Northern Half of the Western Isles. The Southern Half will still see some snow but will be increasingly be a mixture of rain and snow. There is a risk of some frost and Ice patches tomorrow morning. Snow showers are likely during the entire morning tomorrow. Some could be quite heavy and intense at times. Winds will have eased down a little by the morning. In the breaks in the cloud we are likely to see some decent and perhaps prolonged sunny spells. More wintry showers are forecast for the afternoon and evening some again could be quite heavy and intense at times. The Southern Half is likely to see a drier afternoon and evening. Any showers wintry showers here are likely to turn increasingly to rain. Winds will be from a Westerly and North Westerly direction around 20 to 30 mph gusting 40 to 50 mph. With strong gusts overnight tonight and into Friday. Temperatures will range from -1C to 5C but it will feel very cold in a bone chilling wind chill making it feel more like -6C to -7C Saturday Some overnight snow showers for the Northern Half of the Western Isles. But they are forecast to be few and fairly far between. Some wintry showers for the Southern Half but they will turn increasingly to rain as we go overnight Friday into Saturday. The Northern Half is forecast to see a fairly dry start to the day on Saturday a cloud dominated morning for the most part. Some breaks in the cloud by late morning and early afternoon to give us some decent sunny spells. The Southern Half is likely to see more rain and the there is a risk of some thunder and lightning mixed in. Some decent sunshine in between the clouds for Saturday afternoon and across the Northern Half of the Western Isles. The Southern Half will see some sunny spells but that rain is likely to be very stubborn to shift. Temperatures will increase as the Day goes on. We will see rain spread into the Northern Half of the Western Isles by the evening and overnight into Sunday. Winds will be around 10 to 20 mph gusting 30 mph from a Westerly and North Westerly direction. Temps will range from 1C to 6C Sunday A long way off as yet but looks like being a day of sunshine and showers. These showers are likely to be wintry in nature. The heaviest of the rainfall is likely overnight Saturday into Sunday. The best of the sunshine is likely during the afternoon. With a fairly decent end to the day with some decent clear spells. Winds will be from a Northerly direction around 20 to 30 mph gusting 40 to 50 mph. Temps will range from 1C to 7C Long range - HIGH PRESSURE!!!!! A long way off as yet. But from next week high pressure looks to build in with sunshine but it will be cold but a lot less windy!
