Weekend update- The weekend started off with the Bulldogs beating Henderson! They travel to Lufkin Thursday to take on the Jasper Bulldogs. We had some great weather this weekend, but it came with a full moon, so KPD was busy this weekend. People can say that the moon phases don’t impact crime, but we disagree. A full moon does impact human behavior. Most Moms and School Teachers will tell you the same. This weekend 15 persons were booked into the Bulldog Bed and Breakfast. Arrests were made for the following: DWI (x4), Family Violence, Assault, multiple warrants, Violation of City Ordinance (K2 or synthetic marihuana), Public Intoxication, drug offenses, Resisting Arrest, Gregg County warrant (and an additional charge of Fail to ID when he developed amnesia and couldn’t remember his true identity), Felony Robbery warrant and Resisting arrest. Calls for service included: Reckless Driver calls (resulting in a couple of DWI’s), verbal disturbance, assault, suspicious person/circumstances/activity, false business alarms, false residential alarms, unwanted guest, found property, civil matter, welfare concern, multiple thefts, Burglary of Habitation, Violation of City Ordinance (shooting within city limits), Disorderly Conduct, Noise disturbance, Animal control calls, Juvenile trapped in a tree, and assist Gregg County Sheriff’s Office. We stated earlier the full moon impacts behavior, and this weekend that was certainly true. Officers were made aware of a person wanted for a Robbery warrant at a local residence. At first the suspect was cooperative, but when the handcuffs came out, he got crazy. After a brief struggle, he was introduced to a Taser. We rarely have to deploy Tasers, but they are effective. On a separate call that Officers were answering for an unwanted guest, Officers found the suspect had an outstanding city warrant. Instead of going quietly and paying a small fine, he too “Acted Up” earning a resisting arrest charge. We had a few funny or interesting calls, too. Officers responded to a call of what sounded like hyenas in a local subdivision, but they found it was actually a group of folks singing Karaoke outside their home. Call was resolved by them agreeing to go inside for the evening. Why is it that when we are singing it sounds pretty good to us, but others think it is bad? Officers responded to a skateboarder being pulled behind a vehicle. This call certainly meets the WN2D criteria (moving car + skateboarder= emergency room)! He was located and given some stern advice. Officers and FD personnel were called on to assist an eight year old boy down from a tree. The large fallen tree looked pretty inviting to the young man, so he climbed higher and higher until he decided he was a little too high. We deployed Officer B.J. Burns who scurried up the tree and assisted the young man down. Officers continue to hand out crime risk cards when they locate cars with valuables in plain view. With hunting season in full swing we have found several cars with rifles lying on the seats. Officers even found one car with a rifle in plain view, and the doors unlocked. Remember, the criminals are looking for easy targets, and they would love to steal a gun. Please hide or take valuables from your vehicle, so we can continue to reduce crime in Kilgore.
