Well Buck season is over and now starts the special doe and spike - TopicsExpress

Well Buck season is over and now starts the special doe and spike season Jan. 19 - Feb. 1, 2015. Should you end the harvest, points all probability the doe is pregnant and is the spike a a 1/2 year old. My question is that if he is 6 months old and has spike antlers what will he be next year, hes not a 1.5 or 2.5 years old which is a true spike. He should be a button buck which antlers dont protrude the skin. So are you shooting a superior buck, so why take him look for markings and take pictures see what he does next year. He didnt breed any does like a 1.5 or 2.5 did so why not give him a chance to show you what hes got. I have had the privilege to see a 1/2 yr old buck turn into a beautiful 10 point 150 class buck so is every spike inferior? A good hunter knows his heard and on that make decisions of who goes and who stays. Remember that small tracts when manged by working with your neighbors will give the best results. Now if you dont work together then the obvious will occur and that is that soon you or the neighbors will not have any deer and your area will be declared SHOT OUT, and as in many large ranches that have been divided and divided down to 40/50 acre tracts your investment will go South. So a word to the wise if you are spending hard earned money then form that association and put limits on what is harvested. All can win I know you will always have one that doesnt care but if you talk enough you may just get that person to see the light. Hunting is more then just shooting, it is about all that goes with it. The camp stories and happenings, your kids learning about the outdoors and most of all the memories that will last a lifetime. So do you shoot or shoot the camera?
