Well, Ive held my tongue on the Deflate-gate controversy involving the New England Patriots, but no longer. Im gonna say what I need to say. They blatantly cheated, and should be promptly punished by the league, and since this is not the first example of blantant, unsportsmanlike cheating behavior, the punishment should be severe enough to send the appropriate message. Ive been hearing that what they did didnt affect the outcome of the game because most of the damage against the Colts was done in the second half, after they had discovered and rectified the under-inflated balls. However, there is NO WAY to know how that might have affected the game. If they had used fully inflated balls in the first half, as they were supposed to, anything could have happened differently that very well might have impacted the flow of the game going forward. A fumble. A tipped ball. Any number of things could have changed momentum, and thrown a whole new game trend into play. So, there is no way to know how the game would have unfolded if they had played the game straight. Should they forfeit their trip to the Superbowl? I dont know. The Colts definitely didnt play very well, and they were inconsistent all year. However, they were cheated during the championship game. Whatever the league does, it needs to be more than a slap on the wrist and a forfeit of a draft pick. They need to be hurt, or it will never change how they do business. This scandal only confirms one of the key reasons that I so dislike that team. Their coaches and perhaps key players are simply cheaters. Even if a player is fantastic and doesnt cheat himself, if he is aware of this mess, I dont know how he can in good conscience continue to play for them. I guess money trumps sportsmanship, honor, and good conscience. Okay...rant off.
