Well last night was the end of an era. It sorta went out with a wimper. But it also went out with laughter and it was spent with people whom I have gamed with and have grown to respect. I thought when I reached the end of the encounters program I would be done al together and moving on to Descent. Done with the one off program that was designed to high lite new product or new mechanic. Well I think DND encounters was a tremendous program that has given nearly a hundred people in my area a chance to play this table top icon. The designers never intended the program to be more the an introductory to role playing games. Yet the program that ended nearly a year ago has been dragged along by me starting to rerun early storys I know none of the present players were in. I think it was more successful then the designers know. It turns out that my players of the 12 week encounters one offs are ready to take the plunge and do a campaign. A story that may be around 250 or 300 weeks . When you consider it takes 10 encounters per level and there are 30 levels in a campaign. Im sure when I first ran this program standing before all these strangers that I would fall flat on my face. And there have been a few rough patches and winters spent in a garage with only a salamander for heat and flickering fluorescent lights that I didnt think the program would make it . Some nights only 1 player would show but I made it happen. After the first 2 years the program came into its own and there were times I had as many as 14 players. Yeah those were some crazy nights. But as I retire one program and start a new one I have a nice place to play that treats me like I make a dfference and Im surrounded with companions of many earlier adventures. This is all good. I think these things are what has given me the will to embark on this new under taking. As always its about good friends good games and good times.
