Well thats it. Im starting the Annual Dumbest Customer Service in America Award. Each year I will review nominations for the most inane, boneheaded customer service experience of the year, so get your nominations ready. To enter just join the group Dumbest Customer Service Experience 2014 and just post your most inane experience and Ill announce a winner around January 2015. Try to get your best one since I know if you live in the US, you will have hundreds if not thousands of possible submissions. I think Ive got my own. Today I tried to log in to Jcpenny and found that I did not recognize the log in icon as the one I selected. The instructions on the page say IF YOU DO NOT RECOGNIZE THE IMAGE, CALL CUSTOMER SERVICE. So I did that and explained. You guessed it. The customer rep said she could do absolutely NOTHING about the situation, which means it makes perfect sense to tell the customer to call customer service. I even read the message to her and she said I dont why they would direct customers to us since we cant help. so she transfers me to credit and..you guessed it..they cant help. LOL! The only option is to close all of my accounts to the company, just so I can create a new account for the web page. I assume all of my old data will still be in the system for perpetuity. This is the greatest technological ignorance I have seen. Lets step aside from the security risks involved, the notion that you maintain a web page where you cannot simply clear out defective or problematic accounts without severing the business relationship and hoping the customer is willing to come back is a masterpiece. Mind you all of the reps were very pleasant, just useless. I have decided to call the award the Dummy. So far Jcpenny and USAir are running neck and neck for the ahem..honor. The former is bleeding cash and the latter is merging. Not surprising. But I KNOW some of you have some worthy competitors so head over to the group page and join and lets start talking back to customer service!
