Well...the 2014 Ogopogo Open presented by the Kelowna Kinsmen is in the bag! What a fantastic weekend. I would like to start off by thanking 2 very important people that during the insanity of the weekend I dont think I made it clear how much I appreciate them. My co-td, Paul Brownfield and Sheldon Whitford, both great guys and great friends. I got the majority of the credit for getting the new course at Myra Canyon Adventure Park in place...but it would not have been possible without the support and help of these two. They were there making sure that tasks got completed and the course was ready for the tournament! I just wanted to pass on my thanks publicly so that everyone knows how much you two had to do with this project! With that I would also like to thank all of the individuals that came out on sweltering hot days, after they had already done a full day of work at their jobs, or took time on their days off to come out and put in some time at the course to get things ready! It really paid off, its a great course and an amazing addition to our little spot at Knox Mt. My thanks to Rolf and James at Myra Canyon Adventure Park for having the vision that disc golf will be a beneficial and exciting addition to their business. Its been a rough start for them this year, but they are extremely excited about the future of the park and disc golfs involvement. There are more disc golf plans upcoming at MCAP....will keep you posted! A huge thank you to Scott McKinnon and the Kelowna Kinsmen!! I met Scott about 10 years ago when I approached the Kinsmen to see if they could help fund the Knox Mt. course, but not being a non-profit society at the time....things were not meant to be. But Scott came out and started playing and has acquired the bug (re: obsession) for disc golf that we all know and love and has become a huge advocate for disc golf in the community and with the Kelowna Kinsmen. Our last presentation to the Kelowna Kinsmen came to fruition as they were more than receptive, and funded the 1st Annual Ogopogo Open to the tune of $2,500. Not only that....As a community service group, they dug deep and have funded a major portion of our next public course for the amount of $10,000! Permissions and construction hopefully being announced in the very near future! Thank you to all of the sponsors that made the 2014 Ogopogo Open such a fantastic time! We had 43 players taking part in 7 divisions. Everyone received a players pack stuffed with goodies including a tournament stamped disc, Kinsmen glo mini, tournament shirt, towel and some great goodies. Dinner at the Bunkhouse was great on Saturday night and there will be some more news to dispense in regards to the Orchard Green golf course and their involvement with future tournaments coming soon! Thank you to all the players that came out, whether they traveled a few minutes to the new course, or spent hours on the road coming from Campbell River, Vancouver, Nanaimo and everywhere else. It was great to meet all of you and cant wait to have you back for the next tourney! And the final thank you to those of you who stayed behind and helped clean up after it was all over! You all remaining behind is so appreciated as we are all exhausted after such a great and active weekend. You enable us to get to bed before midnight! At the end of it all....I had such a blast with Paul putting this little shin-dig on....we will definitely be doing it again. Expect things to get bigger and better! Lots of fantastic disc golf coming to Kelowna, and Im very excited and gratified to be involved with such a group of awesome and off the wall people. Thanks and my appreciations.
