Well, what a surprise this morning! I do believe winter is here, - TopicsExpress

Well, what a surprise this morning! I do believe winter is here, despite what the calendar says. When I got up, Mina, of course, wanted to go out on the balcony. I looked out and spied some white, powdery stuff on the roofs across the street. Snow?? It was snowing a very fine, wet snow that melted as soon as it hit the ground, but it was able to collect on the roofs for a couple of hours. It is very cold out there! Last winter I felt extremely cold, but I think it won’t be so bad this year. I am healthier than I was last year, because I was sliding into total exhaustion last year. I am noticing a difference already. It just doesn’t seem as cold. It sort of reminds me of Phoenix. I have never felt as cold as I did there in the winter. No matter how high I had the heat, it always felt cold in the winter in Phoenix. If it stayed cold enough, long enough, the Saltillo tiles in my house positively radiated cold. I could feel it coming off the floor. It’s a good thing I don’t have to go anywhere today. The tile floors in this apartment also feel cold, but I have not yet felt any cold radiating from them. The kitties feel the cold in them, too, as they never spend much time on the bare floors in the winter. I have little rugs in many places so they will have somewhere to stand or lie without freezing. Speaking of tile floors, the bathroom has some very nice tiles on the floor, as well as on the walls. The floor tiles are white and have sort of a raised checker pattern. That, unfortunately, collects water and there is discoloration that needs to be scrubbed off every now and then from all the calcium in the water. Of course, every time a shower is taken, the bathroom floor must be mopped. The shower is just open in the room and water goes everywhere. We put a shower curtain up last fall, and it does keep the water from going all over the bathroom. The water does go under the curtain and then into the drain in the floor. Most showers in Turkey are that way, but some people have tubs. Since we are renting, we are certainly not going to install a tub. I want a tub bath so bad! So anyway, I take my shower, dry off, get dressed, comb my hair, clean my teeth, and then mop the floor. It gets up a lot of the excess water to help it dry faster and it also serves to wipe up any footprints the kitties have left on the floor from using the litter box. Yes, I keep the litter box in the bathroom, next to the toilet. I can’t think of a better place to keep it, so there it stays. Since we found the best clumping litter available here, there is virtually no smell. See my photos posted below for pix of our apartment interior.
