Went to Austria last week with my tante. We went there because we both have never been there and she thought it would be pretty neat to see that side of Europe. Honestly speaking, my idea of a vacation is somewhere at a Sunny spot with a beach or at least a pool nearby..:).. Coming from the Caribbean, that is what we think of when we speak of vacation. She saw it a bit different, and so Vienna it was! It was a very beautiful experience. We stayed at the Park Inn hotel from the Radisson chain, just outside of Vienna city, which was very neat seeing that we wanted to see as much of Vienna city as we could. The first day we went in and saw various attractions in the city center. Their buildings are very old and huge! Because of that, the city is a very valabel (read: expensive) city. We did a small tour of the city in a horse ridden carriage. That was a neat experience seeing that i have only seen that in the movies. After that we headed out to Vienna zoo, which is considered to be the best zoo in Europe. There i got to see a panda for the very first time (that was my highlight, btw!) One thing we noticed about Vienna city is how clean it is. The people are very proud of their country and they let that be seen in the way they take care of it. That was impressive. On the second day there we visited Prater, which is a very old piece of Viennas history. We did the ferris wheel there which gave us a panoramic view of Vienna. It was also an oppurtunity to learn a little about where Vienna has grown from in terms of history. That day we also copped us some tickets for a huge Opera and Mozart concert that was taking place the next day. Our third day in Vienna was not Sunny one as we had a lot of rain and grey skis. Anyone that lives in Europe knows what an impact that can have on ones mood. But nevertheless, we decided to visit the Vienna National Museum. There we got to see some beautiful pieces of work from one of Viennas most valabel panters, Gustav Klimt. Honestly speaking, I am not so big in the whole painting scene. Because of that, I didnt really know about him or anything like that. I also missed the hype on the value of his work (my tante showed me some of it before hand). That all changed when i got in the museum and saw his pictures in real life. All i could say was wow!. It was really impressive! The Opera concert was also mind blowing. I have never been to one of those and i figured i wouldnt really grasp it because its not from my generation. There too; i couldnt be more wrong! The show itself was beautiful and mindblowing. Though I couldnt understand the words they sang it didnt take away from the quality of their art. I was blown away just the same. It was definitely something out of the usual for me, Vienna. But I would recommend it to anyone who asks me about a European city they should visit. It is also a very important key player in the area of the European Union, because there was where the treaty of Vienna was signed. But thats something else.. Shortly said: It is definitely a place i would visit again and I would recommend it to anyone hoping to het a taste of Europe. Cheers! X
