Went to the Westview vs Fairfield boys/girls double header basketball games tonight at Westview. The girls game started out with defensive dominance and a 26 point explosion by the WV girls to take a 26-5 lead over FF. The Warrior girls would cool down but sustained a 14-20 point lead throughout to win easily. The boys game took a different path as the FF boys would hit 3 -3 point shots and trail 10-9 and 16-15 at half as the pace was deliberate and the defense fierce. WV held a precarious lead until just under the 5 minute mark in the 4th Qt. as FF took a 20-19 lead. The game remained scoreless from that point until Aspy for WV overcommitted out high on defense and ended up fouling a driving Falcon from behind on a layup, leading to a free throw and a solid 23-19 lead with under 1:30 remaining. Aspy who I believe wound up with 13 points and 11 rebounds would then have his second inside shot of the 4th Qt. spinout after also missing to key free throws earlier and FF would win 27-21 as WV could not get their few shots to fall down the stretch.
