Were Movin on Up... By Caroline Brasfield-Carter — Dec 22, 2014 4:24pm Movin on Up! (The Jeffersons Theme Song) Its a beautiful morning here at All Childrens Hospital! Jacksons counts are on the rise! The number of neutrophils that has been a BIG FAT ZERO now have TWO zeros - because it is 100!! Woo hoo! We are certainly hopeful that that number turns into 200 tomorrow because that would mean he could go home for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day - before returning for scheduled admission and chemo on Friday. He does have an infection on his heel that is being treated with (which helps treat serious infections that helps reduce the growth of bacteria by interfering with the cells ability to make protein.) This infection played a huge roe in Jackson not having any neutrophils and getting a fever. But which came first the no neutrophils or the infection? That is unknown but at least he is being treated properly. His heel looks a lot better today It doesnt look as angry today as it did yesterday. As a matter of fact when Dr. Reed was here he marked the area that was red and inflamed and already today that redness has shrunk within the marked circle. We are crossing our fingers that the antibiotics keep doing their job AND the ANC count doesnt halt or suffer because of the work the body is trying to do. PT came yesterday and today and Jackson did great! Yesterday he bent his knee to 53 degrees and today he had progressed to 64 degrees! That is amazing! He walked the halls today and did some chair exercises. He is very determined to get this leg back to normal (pre cancer, pre surgery, etc.) He is feeling a bit gloomy today and I know it is because he would rather be home - but we are so hopeful that those discharge papers could come in the next 24 hours - but only his body will tell us that. For now - fluids and rest are what is on tap for today! I am going to rest too because this Elf was out until the wee hours of the morning gathering gifts and then wrapping them (thanks to another Elf named Grandma Joni - who sprinkled her magic elf dust and magically wrapped the presents!) Needless to say - we are ready for Santa when ever he may arrive!!! XO Caroline
