Weve always found it the strangest thing... People come in here all the time with a drink in their hand, and sometimes even enjoying a snack of some kind and we always ask them, as politely as possible, if they dont mind putting their drink on the counter while they look around, or to please not eat food in the shop and touch the clothes or fabric. We ask this because we have had to discount, by now, likely thousands of items because they have greasy finger marks on them, or little sloshes of coffee. The typical discount for damaged goods when the damage is small is 20%. That means if our profit on a product is $10, we have lost $2 from a very preventable accident. Dozens of coffees come in every week...several snacks like samosas or chips...we can all do that math ;) Probably 96% of peoples response is to smile and say very graciously that they dont mind at all - and in beautiful Canadian fashion, almost all say, Oh sorry!. :) But every now and then....like this morning...someone will look at us like weve just asked told them they can only shop here if they strip off all of their clothes and strap themselves to a fire ant hill while covered in honey... So wed like to take this opportunity to say to every one of you who smiled politely, perhaps even apologized and happily put your drinks down or your food away and then wiped your hands clean - THANK YOU! We REALLY appreciate your understanding!
