Weve been meaning to address the issue that occured close to home in Cleveland near W.104th and Lake Ave last week. For those that are unaware, a woman was jogging early morning when she was attacked from behind by an unknown person and was raped. We wanted to give time and space before responding quickly. First and most important, our thoughts and prayers go out to her, the running community is with you and we pray that the attacker is found very soon. While very unfortunate, it is sadly the world we live in and we need not REACT but be PROACTIVE in this and move forward to prevent this from happening to someone else. We need to show love and support to the woman and join together as a running community. Some ideas are: 1) Run with pepper spray. 2) Run with a friend or friends. This message is not just for women, but men and children as well! We need to be safe when out by ourselves. The Cleveland chapter of Moms RUN This Town will be hosting an event on September 19th at Edgewater Park. Here is a message from them: On September 2nd, a young woman was attacked and raped during her morning run. What is for us, and likely her, a very peaceful part of her day took a turn for the worst. The moms of Cleveland Moms RUN This Town want to show our support to the survivor by hosting a run starting at Edgewater Park and running past the site of the attack. We want to #takebacktherun that was so viciously stolen from this young woman. We are also taking donations to offer a reward to help find the attacker and provide support to the survivor. The event will have an educational element to highlight ways you can protect yourself when running. Please come out and show your support by joining us for the #takebacktherun run/walk event (Approx 5K). Men, women, moms, dads, kids -- everyone is welcome. We will not be afraid, we will stand up and we will #takebacktherun If you cant attend in person, please consider logging some virtual miles in support of this event. More details coming soon!!
