Weve had a couple of cosmetic type questions arise recently from FB supporters. The first is from a Mum with a teenage daughter with eczema wanting to try perfume for the first time. Our response is I am sure your daughter would like to wear perfume, like her friends. As you are probably aware, the usual advice for people with eczema is to avoid perfumes and fragrances. However there are many different fragrances and not all people with eczema necessarily react to every one; so the sensible advice would be to try a small self patch test of a perfume on a small area of skin and see if there is any reaction, after 48 hours and then proceed with caution and use small amounts (In case of a delayed reaction). A practical tip is to spray perfume on clothes rather than directly on the skin, if concerned direct use on the skin will flare your daughter’s eczema. The second is Does anyone use a foundation that doesnt irritate facial eczema, particularly the eye area. I have only used foundation on the odd occasion in the past but feel as I am getting older I really would need it on a daily basis!! Whats your experience with either situation?
