What I dont understand! . . . The shooting down of the Malaysian airliner over Ukraine is tragic, horrendous, should never have happened. . . But our prime minister says this is not an accident, it is a crime. And the crime has been laid at the feet of Russia before clear evidence is in. I dont know who shot that plane down. It may very well have been Russian separatists in Ukraine. If so it was in error, mistaking it for a Ukrainian warplane. That doesnt make it any less horrendous. . . In 1988 the USS Vincennes shot down an Iranian domestic airliner with 290 people on board. They said they thought they were under attack - the plane was diving towards them. A lie. The plane was clearly seen by other nations as climbing at the time. Margaret Thatcher said the mistake was understandable. There was little international condemnation. It comes down to who controls the media. Western media wants the bad guy to be Russia, and Putin. Maybe it was, but would the mistake be any different, any worse, than that made by trained US personnel on the Missouri? . . . There should not be a war - anwhere, any time - and airliners should not fly over warzones. . . In the last few days over 500 Palestinians - most of them civilians, women, children have been killed by Israeli attacks in Gaza. Thats almost a minor news item. The US and other western nations are very guarded in their criticisms of Israel. . . All such killings are to be condemned, irrespective of which nation pulls the trigger.
