What Im really surprised by in all of this back-and-forth about - TopicsExpress

What Im really surprised by in all of this back-and-forth about income, cost-of-living, etc. is the hypocritical double standard that so many people seem to operate by. I really hate when discussions turn into liberal vs. conservative bull shit arguments. Its not productive at all. But heres the thing: When I share my experience of how difficult is was for me to live working a full-time job that paid around $10 an hour, even with SNAP benefits, Im told by others that they survived on much less, didnt need SNAP, they worked three jobs and walked to school uphill in the snow both ways. Typically, the people offering such criticism identify as being conservative. Not always, though. So when I hear that someone has difficulty living on $80,000 a year, or even $100,000 a year, Im blown away. I thought it was only people like me that struggled. Hell $25,000 a year sounds like royal opulence. Yet, so many times when I read about people who wont be able to afford health insurance in the new marketplace, they are making well over sixty grand a year. By no means am I trying to criticize or insult you, or claim that I can make a judgement about your experience. You are a human being on the other side of the internet. I dont know you so I cant make the claim that I have even one iota of an idea about how you should live, how much you should spend, or how much you should save. What I am astounded by is how so many people tell me that I should be able to live on less, when they themselves cant even live on more.
