What an exhilarating day and night! Playing my timpanis all day in rehearsal, then in a show, with The Defenders Alumni Drum & Bugle Corps, in our first outside exhibition of the season (photos to come later). Drum corps fans from around the country came, packing the 9,000 seat stadium in Lawrence, MA. We did really well. There was some new material, a few classics and a whole lot of entertainment for the audience. We were the first corps of the evening to receive a standing ovation. Very cool, indeed. The lineup for tonight included: 7th Regiment - New London, CT Bluecoats - Canton, OH Boston Crusaders - Boston, MA Carolina Crown - Ft. Mill, SC Crusaders Senior - Boston, MA The Defenders - Rockland, MA Spartans - Nashua, NH Spirit of Atlanta - Atlanta, GA The Cadets - Allentown, PA The Muchachos - Manchester, NH It was a wonderful evening of spirited music performances, crazy field props and unusual instrumentation. These kids today are mucho talented. And us old guys werent too bad, either! But, what a great way to begin my new year! My energy was great, no muscle issues, no breathing issues, no need for oxygen tanks on the field! It felt sooo good to be back performing with the DAC! Thank you all! As for tomorrow, meet me in St. Louis! Life is good!
