What can I say? After 7 hours at the venue the first day of the IPMS UK SMW is over. This is an extraordinary event and Ive never seen so many models, traders and people in the one place at the one time. Its affectively the Australian Model Expo x 3 in size and is HUGE. Although there are some 170 traders on site Id say only about 40% are selling goods that are unique, whereas the remainder are selling the usual run of the mill items that we see at our own shows - kits, books, paints, tools, accessories etc. As for the competition this is held in a separate room to the rest of the event, it being not much bigger than the room in which the Australian Model Expo holds its Swap & Sell, making it very interesting when trying to view and photograph the entries. However the quality and number of entries is astounding and Id not have wanted to be a judge as some of the categories are huge. The biggest surprise for me was of the 2 models I entered I picked up a Commended for my MAK Ketzer, something I didnt expect. Not bad when you consider this is the biggest international modeling competition in the world. Tomorrow I head back for day 2 and the 2 hour competition presentation ceremony which starts at 11:15 am, strange but true.
