What do The Jam, the Chamber Brothers, Tom Jones, The Young - TopicsExpress

What do The Jam, the Chamber Brothers, Tom Jones, The Young Rascals, The Mirettes, Roxy Music, Cross Country, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Tom Jones, Billy Preston, Johnny Halliday, Ray Brown and the Whispers, Richard Alden, the Wanted, James Taylor, Martha Reeves, Delbert McClinton, the Silvertones, Little Mack & The Boss Sounds, Booker T and The MGs, James Taylor, Bruce Springsteen, Johnny Thunders, Jackie Wilson, Jefferson Airplane, Mantis, the Elgins, and The Chocolate Watch Band all have in common? As I discovered last night when trawling through You Tube, they all covered Wilson Picketts In The Midnight Hour. One of the beauties of the almost deceptively simple song is that it can stand being performed in any genre, from country to orchestral to rocksteady. But I dont think I heard a finer version last night than this Hammond instrumental by the obscure Little Mack & The Boss Sounds, released by Picketts own Atlantic label fast on the heals of the original, all the way back in 65. It rivals Jimmy McGriffs version of Satisfaction as one of the finest Hammond instrumentals of the rock-and-soul era - and I had never heard it until last night. Enjoy, And feel free to share your own favo(u)ite interpretation. Theres certainly no shortage of them. https://youtube/watch?v=RqGU1aP8o8Y
