What does a 21st century individual do when they dont know something? Look it up on google of course. Tonight, out of curiosity, I learned how to do basic common core addition and subtraction. And although it seems complicated, youd be surprised how much of what goes into it, especially for advanced problems, that you do without even thinking about it. Take the problem 32-12 for example. Common core says round 12 up to 20 because its easier to deal in numbers that end in 5s or 0s. So 32-20 = 12. Then add back the initial eight you subtracted and voila, you get 20. It may not be the simplest way to do math but after doing some research, I do see the merits of it. Plus if it helps with the education reform we desperately need, why not give it a go?
