What does it all mean I’m going to start…by remembering….a homeless mans name Finish what I started…when my cell phone rings Be patient when I’m thirsty…and grateful when it rains And know that I have not seen A bug render judgment…nor a bird sing profanity Be witness and understand the meaning…of clouds drifting And when I take myself too seriously…the universe…it laughs at me And I now…realize…life is a frameless picture So just keep writing lyrics…for the band of angels I wish for the best…in all your hopes, dreams and endeavors And to never stop asking the question What does it all mean Well Do the math Add…subtract I done that But…what does it all mean I’ve blown it up…rebuilt it Measured it…spilt it Past miscalculations Future predictions Leaves very little room For poets…dreams…and musicians What does it all mean She’s all grown up now She’s got kids I got grand kids They’ve already planned their future And I just…miss her What does it all mean Is shoring up ourselves And poking holes in others A requirement of life Or just a necessity….to be a politician And how did the door…to the war department End up across the hall…of the world peace plan office What does this all mean I propose…that the toys in the sand box…do not belong to us And when crawling clear across the room just to see your brother…was enough And it wasn’t religion or politics…that we discussed And no…I don’t need a cigarette or a drink Think…think What does it all mean Seen a profound bird Early in the morning…in a ripe fruit tree Singing two of the top ten Please feed your babies and pick me with blessings What does it all mean We have all seen…that one red ant Sweating…with a grip…from the burden of a huge crumb…on his back Retracing his tracks…back…to his family tree That’s sacrifice…It makes think of…Jesus Christ and Christmas What does that all mean I just walked past a plant…decomposing in a crack…on a sidewalk…in the city…begging for water Please…honor a homeless man Has the beggar thief…dishonored humanity…or has humanity dishonored the beggar thief What does it all mean Chimpanzeeeee! There it is…I said it Swinging from side to side I just…love those guys Chimpanzeeeee! What does it all mean I been pushed to the brink…out on a ledge Nose down…sweat dripping between your toes…five stories down Hold on brother…no time to negotiate nor debate You have choices…levitate or be consumed And when’s the last time I told you…I love you!
