What is that amazing new feature of the Inner Harbor? What, the McKeldin fountain has always been there?? I can’t imagine how you won’t be amazed after you join the swarm of kids in exploring its waterfalls, passages, and bridges. John and I wandered down there last night, and I mean SWARMS of people loving this fountain. Thanks to the vision of the Department of Transportation (it’s surrounded by traffic), Fountain Craft Mfg. on Patapsco has replaced the broken pump. They will be maintaining the fountain as well. This is all great news as the city heads toward the Battle of Baltimore Bicentennial in September. Thanks to all those who have worked to get this Brutalist landmark working again! What? The Downtown Partnership has plans to demolish this fountain this year? And, T.Rowe Price is contributing $250K toward the demolition cost ($3.5M) because they don’t want to look at this eyesore? How can it be true that the Fountain Craft crew told me that the fountain was well built and hardly needed more than the pump? How can it be true that the Downtown Partnership is planning on replacing this architectural landmark with grass, without community input? Oh yes! Worst of all, the Baltimore Sun has not reported ANYTHING despite repeated attempts to urge coverage.
