What is the benefit of putting the wordpress app files in a subfolder. I see all these developers who like to put the wp files in a subfolder, but Im not seeing the real benefit. Ive searched google and there are very few results come up. The ones that do come up are very vague and they dont show any real benefit. Ive seen developers say, separation of interests. But when you have wp-content folder inside of the wordpress install, it still has its own folder, so is it not separated? When you develop you can run git init inside of either your wp-content file, your plugin file or your theme file, so git will only track the changes inside the file. So sure, you can put all your files into a sibling folder called content in the root, but how is that any better than having a wp-content folder in the root? On the other hand I obviously it helps to hide wordpress. If you go through all the process of hiding wordpress, then having your content in a file that is not named wp-content is beneficial, but you can rename you wp-content to whatever you want anyways. I know the benefits may depend on the purpose of the site, but can anyone point out any of the real benefits of putting wp in a subdir? How does it improve separation of interests.
