What is wrong with Army Chiefs facilitation to end - TopicsExpress

What is wrong with Army Chiefs facilitation to end stalemate? COMMENTS What is wrong with Army Chiefs facilitation to end stalemate? According to the media reports, the Army Chief intervened to facilitate the government and the agitating PTI and PAT to find a way out of the stalemate, with the prior consent or request of the government. Both PTI and PAT started off their long marches with the IMPOSSIBLE demands of the resignations of the prime minister and the chief minister Punjab on mere allegations of rigging of 2013 elections and the involvement of the CM Punjab in the Model Town tragedy respectively. Both PTI and PAT demanded resignations on the ground that the judicial commissions on both the issues will not be able to work impartially while the Sharif bros were in power. Thus, there were only two alternatives left for the government; either the Sharif bros resign or set up guarantors to satisfy the agitating parties that the probes will be impartial. Whose guarantees could be acceptable to the agitating parties except those of the GHQ? Once the ice is broken, it is now up to the political leadership to step in and talk with PTI and PAT on other demands or all sides wait for the findings of the two judicial commissions. The latter option should be better for all concerned. The dharnas must end now. The country and its people have tremendously suffered economic losses in the preceding weeks. It might take years to recoup what is lost. The focus should now be on reforms to resolve the four most pressing issues as highlighted in the recent PEW research report i.e. rising prices, loadshedding, unemployment and crime. The opposition parties will do a great favour to the nation by demanding reforms for both short term and long term relief to the teeming millions across the country.
