Whats interesting is the kid used in the ad. Hes just a typical generic geeky kid from the era, not a kid trying to look ultra-cool by emulating an age-inappropriate style, like hippie or gangsta. This is mainstream culture circa 1966, on the knife edge of turning into youth culture. In a very few years the kid on the bike will be wearing bell-bottoms and sporting long hair; the ad will be in contemporary graphic style and the bike over-decorated and over-accessorized. The emphasis will be off of kid-fun and more onto kid hipness. Traditional un-self-conscious jeans, sneakers, and T-shirt childhood will turn into excessively trend & fashion-conscious consumerist childhood.
