Whats on my mind? Im worried, humbled, yet so unbelievably blessed, to have met inspiring people along the way... 10/19/14 11:16 PM - A text to an undisclosed, yet prolific and inspirational advocate: Me: I cant sleep lately. Im really worried about this GMO bill. Its killing me. what its doing to our community. The impact it could have. Even some of my closest friends, environmental advocates, are voting No. wtf!?! is the bill flawed??? I cant think of ONE reason anyone would vote otherwise. Im so sorry for reaching out but youve always been such a voice of reason, and insight, on the matter. What can we do? Im scared of losing the fight. It terrifies me. :( with utmost regard, Darren. M: Brother, vote yes and be emotionally detached. This is all part of a long process of awakening. We are trying to reverse over a century of toxic agricultural practices. It began long before the GMO companies showed up. No matter how the law is written, it will be challenged because millions of dollars of private profits are at stake. Anyone who says the bill is flawed is being conditioned and misled, and doesnt understand the overall picture. This war is comprised of 1000 battles. It is messy and ugly. Americans dont understand war anymore. Welcome. ...and Im at peace. for now. 1989 - summers spent at Pico Blanco, Big Sur, California; with Barry, a last descendant Chief of the Esselen Native American Tribe. 1991 - Learned Badalana IS NOT a city of Spain. 2000- Maui; and learned something not new... the haoles were at it again. People so easily and quite rightfully mock Columbus day; yet dont recognize the irony and ignorance as they willfully and needfully destroy their very own sense of place; with absolutely no regard to the indigenous cultures around them. it is not right. there is absolutely no respect. no aloha. no dignity at all whatsoever. We have no rights to this land. It came long before us - TheMauiDarren shakamovement.org
