When I arrived this morning at 8:25 I was astonished to find most of the MT kit out and DId by Neil Beattie. Having assured me he had not wet the bed, Neil and myself prepped the field whilst Jim Whitson readied R25 and R49. Others had by now arrived and a focused effort was made to get Jim airborne by 9:30 leaving a skeleton crew to make ready the remaining flying kit. We had four aircraft despatched to the ridge by 10:10 and at its peak, Jim had six other gliders to contend with-not that there was a problem there as he was always top of the stack. The home ridge appeared to work well all day with further westward reaches of the Chilterns proving fickle but notwithstanding, many dashes were made toward there. (Im sure Ken will update us further on ladder claims). So well done Jim Whitson on finally getting your silver duration in the bag. Having missed out previously by mere minutes you truly deserve it as you knew only full well the soul destroying task ahead of you. The other hero of the day is young Elliot Archer (17), an Air Cadet utilising the extant Back to the Sky project (dunno what its really called but that just about sums it up), who has soloed today in EDW after an incredibly short flying career. I glanced at his Gliding log book and even with a few missing entries, he has not completed his first page! Who said flying was difficult? Well done that lad. He certainly made his mum beam with pride when she came to pick him up tonight. Well done Luke for nurturing this raw talent and getting him solo. We made a benchmark today in that we did one hour more flying time than we did launches....30 hours! Thank you to all who, with all our fun in mind, made it so easily possible, especially, Graham, Neil and Jim. Fantastic effort. Regards, Guy
