When I was coaching this morning, my client asked me if I had always wanted to write. As a kid, I loved writing poetry, stories, little bits in the school newspaper. I was reminded that during my freshman year at UGA, I joined the school newspaper as a reporter. When I completed my first article, I asked my English teacher if she would take a look and give me feedback. Ill never forget the little bench outside of her classroom, where she asked me to sit, and told me, You know, I dont want you to embarrass yourself, honey. This really isnt the career path for you. At 18 years old, I allowed myself to believe her. I quit the newspaper, changed my major, stopped writing. I didnt know then what I know now. It took me until I was 32 to start writing again. Two books and hundreds of blogs later....I still feel compelled to write. If you love something--please do it. There will be plenty of people around telling you that you cant. Mostly because they dont understand. Its not their job to get you--its your job. Go forth and do your thing.
