When it comes to CPS Elementary Schools you have a few options, - TopicsExpress

When it comes to CPS Elementary Schools you have a few options, there are: (1) neighborhood, (2) magnet, (3) gifted, (4) classical, (5) STEM, (6) charter and (7) private ... not necessarily in that order. The most desired seats are the gifted then classical spots. Why? Because these seats have a possible "guaranteed" opportunity of acceptance at top Academic HS such as Payton, Northside, Young, Jones, etc. Again, you ask ... why? The annual CPS application process, which opens the first business day of October and ends the second week of December, is for the entrance into Academic College Prep High Schools. Out of the total available seats offered citywide ... 30% is put aside for gifted and classical students ... reserved for those who make the grade & pass the entrance exam. These students are not selected using the Tier group selection. With that said, classical students sometimes share their building with neighborhood schools. One such school is Mark T. Skinner (West) Classical School. Why is this a big deal? The neighborhoods surrounding the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) is proposing a Central City High School. This new high school will accepted graduates of: 1. South Loop 2. Skinner West - Classical School 3. Smyth 4. Andrew Jackson Language Academy 5. STEM Magnet Academy 6. Galileo Math & Science Academy 7. Washington Irving To learn more about the proposal, click here: connecting4communities.files.wordpress/2013/06/c4c-central-city-high-school-proposal.pdf
