When one child in a family has aggressive tendencies, poor impulse control or simply struggles to feel good in his or her skin, siblings suffer. It is crucial that even when we cant make a difficult childs behavior better right away, we give voice to the complaints of the more compliant, cooperative child. Otherwise we run the risk of creating a people-pleaser who recognizes mom and dad’s struggles with their more difficult sibling and move through life “good” and not making any trouble. All this presumes, of course, that we also address the underlying issues fueling the more troubled sibling, as well. But please don’t disregard the needs of your easygoing children!
