When someone crosses you with abusive, or even rude, language it - TopicsExpress

When someone crosses you with abusive, or even rude, language it can be hard to take the high road. Here’s a tale I heard five years ago that I don’t use a whole lot, but it comes in handy. My life is good enough today that I don’t surround myself with naysaying selfish narcissists. But, those moments still occur where I may be attacked directly or I may be dismissed with a passive aggressive “WHATEVER.” The story belongs to a man from Louisville, Kentucky: Whenever I’m confronted or challenged by aggressive behavior, I’ll say, “How may I help you?” If the confrontation escalates after my selfless gesture of help, I’ll say, “I’m sorry you feel that way.” If the rudeness continues, I’ll then say, “Maybe, you’re right.” That usually puts an end to the matter. One evening, I was headed home after a meeting, feeling deeply spiritual floating on a pink cloud. I entered the house and my wife and three kids were engaged in WW III. So, I decided to bypass the chaos and sit peacefully in my chair in the den. My wife came in and said, ”Don’t give me any of that ‘How can I help you’ bullshit.!” I said, “I’m sorry you feel that way.” “You’re an asshole,” my wife said. “Maybe you’re right.”
