When the Wind Howls “Children are great imitators, so give them - TopicsExpress

When the Wind Howls “Children are great imitators, so give them something great to imitate.” As our children go back to school this week in Michigan, we need to take a moment to step back and look at the influences in their lives. In school, they will be influenced by the teachings of the school’s curriculum, their friends, social media, and current events – just to name a few. It can be a little overwhelming as a parent or grandparent when we take a good hard look at what our children are facing that we as youths didn’t. Over the holiday weekend our family sat down and re-watched “Mulan” which is Disney movie based on a true story. There was a phrase that the Emperor of China made while being taunted by the enemy: “No matter how the wind howls, the mountain cannot bow to it.” For me, that reemphasizes Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” No matter what our children have thrown at them during this school year … or in life, having a solid foundation of faith is more critical than making the honor roll. Don’t misunderstand me, within our household we strongly encourage education, but we know that it’s impossible to get through a day with chaos swirling around us without God in our lives and His mighty protection surrounding us. Please allow me to encourage you to take time today to pray for our children as they enter this new school year, even if it is just for a few moments. As a church, we need to make sure that our children know they have a “safe” place with people who love them unconditionally so that “No matter how the wind howls …” they will not bow but be able to stand firm in their faith. Have a wonderful week sweet friend.
