When we have a debate, discussion, or argument with someone about the Religion of Allah, The Most High, whats our intention? May Allah protect us. Imam Abu Hanifa (rahimahullah) warned his students by saying, When we used to debate, we feared that our brother would make a mistake. So we would stop [debating] before he made an error. When you debate, you are hoping that your brother will make a mistake. That is like hoping for your brother to fall into kufr. And if you debate like that, then you have already fallen into kufr.
