When you pay attention to your thoughts and you see negative ones, do not push them away or say to yourself these should not be here. Take another approach and let them be, say hello to them, allow them to surface. Fighting with your thoughts will just make them stronger. Think of your thoughts as beach balls. When you fight to keep the beach balls under water you will fight forever. When you let them surface you can then deal with them and kick them away - never to return. Treat your negative thoughts in the same way... Let them surface and acknowledge them. Once you do this you can then place them aside by saying to yourself thats interesting but it may not be true all the time. This reduces the fear you have of them. When you do this you are also starting to release the attachment to them. You see them as passing. Do not worry if they keep coming - the more you struggle with them the more they will appear. Letting them surface will let you release them and you will notice that they return less and less frequently. Be gentle and be aware - do not control just guide. Doing this regularly really changes the way you automatically think. Better thinking (with new thoughts that you believe to be true) results in better feeling and thus triggers better actions.
