Where were you born? I was born at Saint Lukes on Army St. San Francisco Ca and so where 2 of my three children Historic Origins California Pacific Medical Center arose from the combination over a century-plus of several early San Francisco medical institutions,[4][5] including among them: The German Hospital[6][7] (founded in 1858 and renamed Franklin Hospital during World War I), St. Lukes Hospital (1871; originally on Bernal Hill it moved to the present Army (Cesar Chavez) Street location - sharing the site for years with the Bancroft Library - in the 1880s), The Pacific Dispensary for Women and Children[8][9] (1875, name shortened to Childrens Hospital in 1877), Cooper Medical College (1882, became Stanford Medical school in 1959),[10] Hahnemann Homeopathic Hospital[11] (1887; re-named Marshall Hale Menorial hospital in the 1970s, before being merged into Childrens in the 1980s), Lane Hospital of Cooper Medical College[12] (1895, became Presbyterian Hospital after the school moved to Stanford), Garden Sullivan Hospital (1913),[13] and the Northern California Transplant Bank (1980). Several of these institutions operated nursing schools (Pacific Dispensary, St. Lukes, Lane Hospitals),[14] as well as outreach clinics (eg: St. Lukes Neighborhood Clinic, founded in 1920) during portions of their history.
