While in GB, #JMo was surprised by how little the British knew about the U.S. He wrote to Jefferson in 1804: ...in conversing with Lord Castlereagh & some other gentleman on the rapid growth of the U States, I observed that I was astonished to find persons of distinction by their offices and talents so extremely uninformed on that subject...that in truth they knew as little of us as they did of the cape of good hope.
