While many are remembering the passing of those that entertained us and amused us, Im spending my time in remembrance of two women that were far greater to me than any performer could ever be. Joan Mehr, wasnt a blood relative, but her family accepted me as a brother/uncle/son in a way that always made me realize that I was family to them, and they were always there for me as a family should be. She was an older sister that was there to congratulate when I did well, and kick my ass when I did something stupid. Nora Finnell, was my oldest aunt and the oldest sister of the Houston Clan. I spent summers out of state with her family, and it was always as if I was at home. Quick to show me love, as any good aunt can do. However, just as quick to give me a few whacks on my butt of I did wrong. In a span of 34.5 hours, two people very dear to me left this plain of existence to move past this struggle we call life. Two different women, yet two very strong women. Two family members that I shall greatly miss, but forever keep in memory and my heart. May you both be at rest and your spirits keep watch over those that you have left behind.
