While on the Dave Nalle corner there is a heated debate on the topic... I just learned about this tax credit thru a conversation with a Central American legal person. A couple things to consider... A tax credit is a return on taxes paid by the worker. It also shows that they are paying taxes and not living off government aid and likely keeps them from collecting government aid. Are they committing fraud? If so, why isnt the fed government enforcing the law? It is unlikely that illegals would want to be convicted of fraud or any other crime. We are paying lots of staff salary and benefit at the fed gov to uphold the law. It will be nice to have some folks fired for not doing their jobs. Are these illegal folks actually sending funds home to help with children? Again it is a tax credit not government aid. $5.6 billion per year? LOL we send a lot more than that to Latin countries for Samaritan purposes. Maybe cutting back government programs and allowing tax credits for families is less expensive and more effective.
